Stultz Cottage Helps Abused and Neglected Youth

Stultz Cottage Helps Abused and Neglected Youth

Abused and neglected youth in the Piedmont now have somewhere else to turn for help. The Children’s Home in Winston-Salem has opened Stultz Cottage to house those youth who can no longer live with their parents. The Cottage will initially house six teens.

Having been empty for 26 years, Stultz Cottage was renovated by a Triad Apartment Association make-over which in two weekends repainted, decorated, replaced electrical and plumbing fittings, and outfitted the 10,500 square foot building. Several alumni who once lived in the cottage helped in the renovation.

Winter Weather Hurts Carolina Blood Donations

The American Red Cross says inclement weather over the past few days has resulted in nearly 3,000 units of blood that could not be collected due to blood donation center closures, cancelled blood drives, and the inability of donors to attend blood drives.

The American Red Cross Carolina Blood Services Region provides blood to 103 hospitals and must have 1,600 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet hospital demand.

Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.

There is a special need for type O and type B blood donors.
