Mocksville woman accused of fraud

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Salisbury police have charged a Mocksville woman with depositing forged checks. 

Frances Belinda Dewalt, 26, of Cherry Hill Road, is charged with fradulent deposit of money, receiving money improperly from a bank machine, and receiving stolen goods and property. 

Dewalt deposited nine forged checks that amounted to $2,600 and withdrew more than $900 between April 13 and 17, police told the Salisbury Post.  The checks were written in the name of two separate victims and their Wells Fargo bank accounts, the paper reports. 

The suspect was jailed in Rowan County under a $50,000 secured bond.

48 Hours Mystery to Re-air Episode on Davie County Murder

48 Hours Mystery on CBS will re-air an episode Tuesday featuring a Clemmons dentist accused of murdering his estranged wife in Mocksville.

The program is based on Dr. Kirk Turner who was found not guilty by reason of self defense in the September 2007 murder.

The documentary news program originally aired the episode last May.

The 48 Hours film crew shot footage for the show in the Mocksville courtroom during Turner's 2009 trial.

Officials from the show said this is the first time they have featured a case involving a not guilty verdict.

Turner had originally been charged with stabbing Jennifer Turner and killing her. The episode airs at 10 p.m. on CBS.

Man Charged With Stabbing His Girlfriend, Mother

 A man has been charged with stabbing his girlfriend and her mother Sunday in Davie County, according to deputies.

Wendell Lilly, 36, allegedly attacked his girlfriend and her 65-year-old mother in a home on Childrens Home Road in Mocksville at about 12:30 a.m.

The victims were reportedly asleep during the stabbing.

Lilly then allegedly stole his girlfriend's car and drove off. Deputies said police in Winston-Salem spotted the car and arrested him.

Lilly is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury. He is being held in the Davie County jail without bail.

Both victims are reportedly in serious but stable condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

He was being held in the Forsyth County Jail with no bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Mocksville Woman Charged With Prostitution

A Mocksville woman was charged with prostitution in New Jersey for the second time in a week Friday, according to police.

The 19-year-old woman was arrested at 1:29 p.m. in Mount Laurel Township at an undisclosed location.

Police said she was placed in the Burlington County Minimum Security Facility on $2,500 bail.

She was also arrested July 4 on a charge of promoting prostitution at a Red Roof Inn in the county. She was released after a court hearing following that arrest.

DCCC Police Training Student Charged With Gun Possession

A law enforcement training student has been charged with having a gun on Davidson County Community College's main campus Saturday, according to the Lexington Dispatch.

Colton Dean Medlin, 21, of Mocksville, was charged with felony gun possession on educational property. Although the pistol was allegedly only used for training, authorities said weapons are only allowed on the firing range.

Medlin received a $10,000 unsecured bond and has a court date of July 27.

Davidson County Sheriff David Grice said it is his understanding that Medlin is no longer a student at DCCC, following his arrest.

Mocksville Man Faces Driving Charges After Crashing Motorcycle

A Mocksville man is facing several driving charges after losing control of his motorcycle Monday evening in Woodleaf, according to the Salisbury Post.

Adam Broadway has been charged with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and careless and reckless driving.

He was reportedly thrown from his Harley Davidson at about 7:30 p.m. after striking a culvert running underneath a driveway, the paper reported.

The incident reportedly happened at 1155 N.C. 801.

Area resident Tim Smith said he saw Broadway flying through the air after hearing a motorcycle suddenly slow down, the paper reported.

Broadway suffered a serious laceration to his leg, Roberts said. He was treated at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Davie County Man Charged With Trafficking Painkillers

A Davie County man is facing drug trafficking charges after his vehicle was searched during a traffic stop, according to the McDowell News.

Jerry Glen Selph, 24, of Mocksville, has been charged with two felony counts of trafficking opium or heroin and one misdemeanor count of possession of a prescription controlled substance.

He was taken into custody in lieu of a $26,000 bond.

Old Fort police officers recently stopped Selph’s vehicle on Interstate 40 for possible impaired driving, the paper reported.

They search the vehicle and found 24 hydrocodone painkillers and two Alprazolam, or Xanax, anxiety pills, according to the paper.
